make 3d text

1. The Text:

We will first type in the text. From the Tools Pallet, select Text Tool and type '3D TEXT' or anything that you'd like. You can take any font and color but it should suit the 3D effect. Have a look at the following picture.

2. 3D Effect:

From the Effects menu select 'Extrude & Bevel' under '3D' sub-menu.

A window called '3D Extrude & Bevel Options' will open. In this window first check ON the Preview check box so that we can monitor the 3D effect on the text. Now from Extrude & Bevel section in the window you can adjust the Extrude Depth to have an output to your liking. From the Bevel drop down you can chose different Bevel effects. Just try a few and choose the one you like. I have taken Tall-Round effect. Adjust the Height of the Bevel so it would suit the 3D text. You can rotate the cube under Position section of this window just click, hold and drag to rotate the text to have the best looking position. Click OK when you are done.

If you are not happy with the result and wish to change the setting of this 3D effect, just open the Appearance panel from Window menu (You can also press Shift + F6). In this Panel you will see '3D Extrude & Bevel' under 'Type'. You can double click on this to edit the 3D effect.

3. Background:

I will now add a background for the text. Add a layer under the text layer and using Rectangle tool from the Tools Pallet draw a rectangle. You can choose any color.

4. Glow Effect:

Now we will make it glow! From the Effect menu, select Outer Glow under Stylize sub menu.

A window named 'Outer Glow' will open. In this window first check ON the Preview check box so that we can monitor the Glow effect on the text. You can adjust the Opacity as well as Blur values. Click OK when you are done.

It should look something like this.
